Mission Bay: Heavy Traffic Expected All Week

trafficThis week is the final week of regular season home games for the Giants.
The Giants will be playing night games every night this week, starting September 27th 2016.

Compounding the afternoon commute is the start of Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference at Moscone Center, which begins on Wednesday, September 28th and runs for 2 weeks.
Howard Street between 3rd & 4th will be closed throughout this period, which has a spillover effect throughout the area.

Please be patient and allow extra time for your afternoon commute, regardless of whether you’re on the shuttle, driving, walking or biking.

Thank you.

Angle Stop (Supply) Valve Maintenance Tips

valveThe angle stop is the valve between a plumbing fixture like a faucet, dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine, toilet and the water supply pipe. Its purpose is to allow the water to the fixture to be turned off without having to shut off the main water line to a unit. Permitting the fixture to be repaired, maintained or replaced with the water off.

Once a year, fully operate the valves to the closed and opened position once or twice. When you are done, fully open it once more before closing it down a ¼ turn. Moving these valves sometimes releases loose sand or minerals into the water line to a faucet, so remove and clean a faucet aerator as well.
If the angle stop has been ignored a long time, it may be frozen in place. If this is the case, it is recommended the valve be replaced. Trying to force the valve to work may just cause leaks to occur or handles to break off. It is a good idea to also replace the water line itself that leads from the angle stop to the fixture when an angle top is replaced if the water line is not one piece with the fixture.

Mission Bay Shuttle - Revised Timetables Effective August 29, 2016

mbtma

The following adjustments have been made on Shuttle Timetables which take effect on Monday, August 29th:

1. Loop service between 6am and 7am will pick-up passengers on 5th Street, at the corner of 5th & Market. There’s a white loading zone just before the mailboxes at the corner where riders will board.

2. Time has been added to all routes after 8:15am and after 5pm. Note this changes pick-up times both at the BART station and at your stops in Mission Bay.

3. MB Shuttle is experimenting with a ‘flexible’ route from Mission Bay back to BART on the East route.

  • In the morning, buses will return to BART directly via either 3rd or 4th Street.
  • In the evening, buses will serve Caltrain on Townsend between 3pm and 5pm.
  • After 5pm, buses will serve Caltrain via 4th Street. Customers going to Caltrain will get off the shuttle at the China Basin building.
  • After 5pm, if there are no Caltrain customers, drivers will either return to BART via Third, Fourth, or Seventh Street, depending on traffic.
  • Over the next few weeks, MB Shuttle hopes to determine which route is best to get from Mission Bay back to Mission Street. Once this is established, the schedule will be revised to reflect new timing if necessary.

For more information or downloadable versions of the schedule, please visit their website at http://www.missionbaytma.org/cms2/view.htm/72/1441/Shuttles.

HVAC Maintenance Tips

Heating and air conditioning equipment seem to break down when you most need it on the coldest or hottest day of the year. There are some simple preventive maintenance, trouble shooting and techniques that can help keep the unit working properly.

  • It is very important to change your air filter as often as needed. Twice a year before summer and winter are a good time to change the filter depending on conditions and use. Every other or every three month can be needed. A higher efficiency filter with a MERV rating of nine (9) or higher may need to be changed more frequently at least every other or three months depending on conditions and use. Remove the old filter and install a new filter. Check the side of the filter for the air flow direction arrow before installing the filter.
  • Program your thermostat according to your schedule for when home and away for energy efficiency.
  • Check the thermostat if the unit is not heating or cooling to make sure it is on and is set a few degrees above for heat or below for air conditioning of the temperature displayed on the thermostat.
  • If condensation water is detected coming from the unit shut it down and call for repair.
  • If ice is forming on the evaporator coil when the air conditioner is on or if the unit is not maintaining temperature, the unit is most likely low on refrigerant and you should call for repair.
  • It is recommended that an annual routine maintenance and inspection be performed on the system to help keep the unit working properly.
