Originally created for Burning Man 2024, Naga & The Captainess is a 100-foot-long, 25-foot-tall serpent made of over 5,000 shimmering scales and lit from within. Installed in the weirdly green water of Rainbow Falls Pond (yes! There is a man-made waterfall) near JFK Promenade about 700 feet east of Transervse Drive on San Francisco’s Golden Mile.
The whimsical sculpture is set to become the largest public art piece in the history of the park.
The project is a collaboration between local artists Cjay Roughgarden, Stephanie Shipman, and Jacquelyn Scott, with support from arts nonprofit Illuminate, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, and a crew of over 250 volunteers. On occasion, Naga even blows bubbles from his nose – just in case he wasn’t magical enough.
More than just a sculpture, Naga is the first part of a larger immersive experience still in progress. Plans include a sculptural shipwreck seating area, interactive treasure chests, and a watery street mural meant to inspire connection and play.

2025 SF 4th of July Fireworks San Francisco invites you to come down to the Waterfront to enjoy the day as the annual 4th of July fireworks display. This event typically happens every year to celebrate Independence Day, but please note, as of 5/13/25, the 2025 information has not yet been announced, but we expect details to be similar to 2024.
The annual Fourth of July Fireworks will take place along SF’s incredible northern waterfront. Fireworks are typically set off from two barges off Pier 39 and from the Municipal Pier, Aquatic Park, beginning at 9:30 pm.
Fireworks are best viewed from the Hyde Street Harbor and Fisherman’s Wharf area. Other public areas to watch from include PIER 39 and the Pier 43 walkway.
What about the Fog? On a clear night, the fireworks show is spectacular. But often in July, there’s low-lying fog, so there’s always a risk of just getting to see puffy colorful clouds.
Full details of the 2025 fireworks and any waterfront festivals haven’t been announced
