Get out in the open, away from city lights to see the annual Perseids Meteor Shower, the most beloved meteor shower of the year for the Northern Hemisphere.

The annual Perseids meteor shower is the glittery result of Earth passing through debris left behind by a comet, so typically you should expect to see up to 40 meteors per hour – as long as you are away from light pollution and the clouds stay away.

Is 2025 a Good Year to View the Perseids?

Yes, 2025 will be an excellent year to view the Perseid meteor shower. The Perseids peak on the night of August 11 into the early morning of August 12, 2025, and the moon will be in its waning crescent phase with only about 7% illumination. This means the skies will be dark, offering near-perfect viewing conditions for the Perseids, which are known for their bright and frequent meteors.

For the best experience, head to a location with minimal light pollution and clear skies. The meteors will be most visible after midnight, with the radiant point in the constellation Perseus high in the northeastern sky.

Why is this meteor shower one of the favorites? It’s a rich meteor shower, and it’s steady with up to 100 meteors per hour. These meteors frequently leave persistent trains.

Perseid meteors tend to strengthen in number as late night deepens into midnight and typically produce the most meteors in the wee hours before dawn.

San Francisco is getting a second Taco Bell Cantina, this time landing at Fisherman’s Wharf in the heart of Anchorage Square. The new spot is set to take over the old Auntie Anne’s and Chipotle spaces at 333 Jefferson Street and will serve alcohol late into the night.

Unlike your typical Taco Bell, Cantina locations come with a full drink menu including beer, wine, sangria, and frozen cocktails. The city’s other Cantina, near Oracle Park, is open until 3am daily. The Wharf location is expected to keep similar hours, serving booze until California’s 2am cutoff.

The Cantina concept brings a more modern, lounge-style feel with open kitchens, exposed brick, and charging stations — a place to actually hang out instead of just grab-and-go. That vibe, paired with booze and late hours, could draw a solid late-night crowd in a neighborhood where most restaurants shut down by 9pm.

The City’s only In-N-Out has long been the Wharf’s only late-night option, closing by 1am on weekdays and 1:30am on weekends. But with the new Cantina serving tacos until 3am and alcohol until 2, Fisherman’s Wharf is finally getting a true after-hours alternative.

The opening also marks a small win for Anchorage Square and ties into broader efforts to bring life back to the Wharf after years of pandemic-era closures. The new Taco Bell Cantina is expected to open in late 2025 or early 2026.
