CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES

NEW: EMERGENCY STREET CLOSURE FOR CONSTRUCTION

O’Shaughnessy Boulevard between Malta Drive and Del Vale Avenue will be closed 24 hours a day until work is complete.

The 44 O’Shaughnessy Muni route will be affected.

UPDATE: Van Ness Improvement Project

This civic improvement project will bring San Francisco’s first Bus Rapid Transit system. To maximize the benefits of construction, we will also be replacing major utilities including water, sewer and emergency firefighting water systems, repaving Van Ness Avenue, enhancing streetlights and landscaping, and installing new sidewalk lighting and rain gardens.

Construction in the median of Van Ness has begun and includes the removal of contaminated soil, 86 trees and the concrete curb. This work is necessary to provide room for construction activity and to maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction over the next three years of construction. Curbside utility work is scheduled to begin in April.

Traffic Impact:

Weather permitting, the number of traffic lanes on Van Ness Avenue in each direction will continue to be reduced from three to two in two-block segments each weeknight through January.

On Sunday, January 22, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., the Overhead Contact System that powers the electric buses will be removed on Van Ness fromPost to Sutter streets. During these hours, additional lane closures may be in effect for this work.

On Monday, January 23, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., the striping of the roadway on Van Ness northbound at Hayes Street will be redone and the Overhead Contact System that powers the electric buses will be removed on Van Ness from Geary to Sutter streets. During these hours, additional lane closures may be in effect for this work.

On Tuesday, January 24, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., the striping of the roadway on Van Ness southbound at Golden Gate Avenue will be redone and the Overhead Contact System that powers the electric buses will be removed on Van Ness from Turk to Eddy streets. During these hours, additional lane closures may be in effect for this work.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen field conditions.
