In the late 1970s, savvy San Francisco businessman and developer Warren Simmons dreamed of building an urban park along the city’s undeveloped waterfront. On October 4, 1978, Simmons’ dream became a reality when he transformed a dilapidated cargo pier into PIER 39, an eclectic collection of specialty shops, restaurants and attractions. The first project built along The Embarcadero since World War II, PIER 39 paved the way for future developments beside the Bay. Thirty-nine years later, more than 11 million guests visit The PIER each year.

39 WEEKS OF CELEBRATION

Join in on the fun beginning this January, every Friday for 39 weeks to celebrate 39 years of amazing views, fresh seafood, unique local shopping, and, of course, sea lions! Each week they will be serving up something different: from discounts and giveaways, to fun special events like Movie Nights, a 70s Roller Disco Party, Beer and Wine Pours, and more. There’s something for everyone to enjoy! The celebration culminates with The PIER’s 39th Birthday Bash on October 14, featuring live music and fireworks over San Francisco Bay.
